I think someone should attempt to change the LED in a optical mouse to a color changing one. Would this even work?

probably not. the optical eye is optimized to read red light. while it can be made to work with bleu and green these are fixed colors and they do not read as well. what you can do is replace the led for the eye with an ir led and then hook up any color led you want to the + and - leads from the usb cable.

i think i might try this soon. my mom recently upgraded her optical mouse, so we got a spare one. when i get around to doin some mods, ill chek into this and post my results. ive got about 4 mods just sitting on my desk that need to be done, but i havent felt like doin them lately. ill put the mouse to the front of the line. :D

What if you used an infrared LED AND a color changing one

probably wouldnt fit, cuz im pretty sure that the led has to be lined up just right with the sensor, and with the optical mice ive seen, only the led on one side will shine through.

if you use 3 mm LEDs and mayb still sand them down, you can aligned the IR one and get the color changeing one to shine good from the bottom.
