For those capasitors you need to have a properly sized resistor to be placed between those legs. To discharge the tube you need to have special tools and don't think that it is safe to try to do it without them. For that resistor you might want to try google. Words could be like: capasitor discharge using resistor etc.

Well of course not! My friend and me had an square mouse (yes, square...very old) to play with...it had a small capacitor…aim the hot-air gun to it: BAAAM!

Just thought I'd drop a little info for you all...Cathode Ray Tubes (like the monitor you're modding) can store over 1kilovolt of electricity. That's enough to make you look like this: 8O for the rest of your life. Just be careful and don't disconnect anything from the CRT itself, and you should be ok. I'd wear a grounding strap, too, just in case.

Well, discharging a monitor would be really hard...if you can figure out the voltage on the capacitiors you might be able to set up a light which will use the remaining energy...you would still be at great risk though while you hooked that light up...

well once we had a broken tv.. lets just say a hammer can properly discharge a monitor... but hmm... call the maker of the monitor and ask them... wearing a heavy pair of insulated gloves and just trying to stay away from the back of the ray gun should help... i also dont think many people do monitor mods cuase A) usually no one wants to see the awsome stuff your running inside a monitor.. B) that dont really get that hot, and you cant over clock them. But I guess if you want to make one loud monitor.. it would be cool
