you could do that in the keyboard like everyone else...
as for in the speakers....if you use a 10K/8Kohm tranistor (i think thats it) connected to the speaker wires then connect the fader to the output from the transister...then you will get fading lights that pulse in corespond with the music

does that work? I mean, the signals in the wire are in frequencies. But perhaps that’s enough?

ok i got the idea from here
http://www.scitoys.com/scitoys/scitoys/light/light.html
but instead of a laser pointer put either a led with a resister or the whole color fade design
..and it was a 8ohm/1000ohm transformer...not what i sadi before

I got an idea lately: To put two satellite-speakers on/in my chair. To get any signals I could use this laser-communication, but it wouldn’t be affective hence you’re not sitting completely still which would cause the link to be broken at the slightest movement. So I would recommend IR-communication instead. I’m going to look more in to it to what is possible and what is not, and there might even be a mod :)

have anyone done anything like that?

I'm going to test that communication thing with IR parts, becouse I have few IR leds and 1 or 2 IR receivers :) or something like that :P

there is one problem with Ir...it can only go about 3-4 ft (1m) unless you get a large ammount of leds...that is because the daylight interferes with it

I was thinking of using a 2-3 years old cordless headphone I have. I just have to disassembly the headphone and use its IR-receivers. The emitter is fine as it is. :)

Cordless phone and headphones. Two different things so don't get confused. I have seen those headphones with IR and RF function but phones usually use RF ofcourse.
