When you hook the circuit up in that fashion, you are forcing the power supply to sink current into a line that usually sources it. Is that ok for the supply, or do you think that it might damage it ?

Regards,

Cam.

This technique has been used for many years now and I haven't heard a single case that this could have fried the PSU. Should be safe to use it.

Yes it is possible, but there is only one problem.
Well... a wire with lower voltage is minus, and if you want 5 volts, and you want to use switches then you build it in 2 switches, one selects plus wire between 5V or 12V and other controls the negative wire between 5V and 0V ...sorry that my normal schools english isn't best quality...and don't know all the words...
look at http://koti.mbnet.fi/urza/Baybus.jpg

Hey Urza don't apoligize for getting some things wrong, you are still learning :) Just the fact that you are trying to learn English or any other language is something you should be proud of. That is why this site is so great. It brings together many people of many languages from all over the world. So maybe we can help your English as well as your modding skills :) Happy modding.
