only use the positive legs from the led, and have the negative spots going to the negative leg.

I think all three legs are + one controls green the next blue and then red
Below is the description of the LED in question

A single LED, encapsulated in a diffused white package with three leads, that can be made to emit light of any colour of the spectrum from green through to red. Available in 3mm, 5mm and 10mm diameter round packages, a 5 x 2mm rectangular package. All types are common cathode which is the central, longest lead. The red anode is the medium length lead and the green anode is the shortest.
Red Green
Forward voltage at IF=20mA: 2V 2.2V
Forward current (max): 30mA 30mA
Reverse voltage: 5V 5V
Power dissipation (max): 105mW 105mW
Peak wavelength: 625nm 565nm

yea, that should work. if it doesnt then i would sugggest for ya to wire all the ground points from the board to the ground leg of the led.
