I've struggled getting this working with a LM358N instead of the LM324 chip. Mostly down to me being a beginner. I've finally got it working tonight and I'm over the moon. It works brilliantly. I'll post up a movie of what I'm using them for when I've got one sorted, but it should be really cool. Thanks again for such a brilliant circuit!

I'm glad that you got it working. For such a small piece of hardware, the fading effect is quite interesting. :)

I have a problem with my circuit... the fade dont work.. the red Led just turns On or OFF without fading..

transistor: BC639
condensator: 33MF

Check all the connections once more for shorts and cold joints. Also, make sure you don't use a cheap wall transformer to power the circuit as the fluctuating voltage makes the circuit behave badly. It needs properly regulated voltage, like you find from a battery or a computer power supply...
