I just wanted to know if ANYONE has ever replaced the red plastic in a microsoft optical wheel mouse, or if anyone has any good ideas of ways in which to do this... I want blue led's to match my case, and I'm also going to paint it black to match, but this red plastic is really annoying!

only possibility i can think of is to remove the red plastic and create a mold out of it, then cast your own part from the mold. the dye cant be removed from plastic, and i believe taht part is where everything in the mouse is mounted.

If you want you would be able to cut and bend a small piece of a cd case to fit in that little hole...it would bend with a lighter or something...i have the MS mouse but mine is covered with black rubber that japala reviewed...but good luck with the blue leds

I thought of the both those possibilites, decided that creating one from a bit of plastic was the easiest, but also, I kinda like the mouse with a hole there... I am thinking I might stick a blue and a UV LED in there and paint the inside with some uv paint, some kinda pattern, or a Raven... I made a custom window in my case of a raven like soo...

...and I thought I could do something similar with the uv paint here... The piece isn't integral to holding the mouse together fortunatly.. I might cover the led's to diffuse the light a little, could look cool. Also the mouse is a little lighter without that plastic in there which is a gaming plus! ;)
