Does anyone know how to use a cathode or power a cathode using a regular wall socket?
What kind of adapter is needed of if its possible?

Regulated transformer that gives you 12 volts and one ampere of current. That should do it. If you find only unregulates supplies just take one with a voltage rating of 13.8-17 volts and use 7812 regulator to bring it down to 12 volts. Should work.

As it is unregulated the voltage is around 14-15 volts on the output when not loaded... I'm not sure how it would react with load and does it then limit it to 12 volts... try it and see how it goes. :)
