Can a dead motherboard battery cause a computer to turn off? Dell Dimension 4700 turns off after a while or does not turn on, the power light turns orange and flashes. Can this be caused by a dead or low battery? The motherboard does not look damaged or have leaking capacitors, but sometimes the power supply fan doesn't turn on, usually when it is first turned on.

These are from the manual;

"Blinking amber
A power supply or system board failure has occurred.
Check the diagnostic lights to see if the specific problem is identified. Also, see "Power Problems" in your computer Owner's Manual."

and...

"IF THE POWER LIGHT IS BLINKING AMBER — The computer is receiving electrical power, but an
internal power problem might exist.
• Ensure that the voltage selection switch is set to match the AC power at your location (if applicable).
• Ensure that the processor power cable is securely connected to the system board."

Hope this helps.
