Post subject: Changing LEDs in a phone
PostPosted: 16.02.2003 02:15
I opened my Siemens C45 today. I inserted a piece of paper into it, to make a background image.
Then I started to look at the LEDs, and my God, they were tiny! One of the LEDs was actually not working either. I would like to change these amber/yellow LEDs into blue ones. I know that Rauter has done so in his Nokia phone. How do I do it with the soldering? It is not possible to access the phone from the back, because of some metal covers. Should I solder on the front? Can I use a normal soldering iron for this? I have a soldering iron with a replaceable tip. Should I replace the tip with a needle or something? And - where do I purchase the LEDs? Do they sell them at Elfa?

The LEDs should be soldered on the side where they are soldered. A normal solder pen can be used as long as it doesn't get to hot. When soldering on the phone you have to be very careful, cause the circuits on the PCB easly lets go from the PCB when soldering. The solder pen's tip should be pointy. If you're livin in Sweden then you can buy from ELFA, but if you want blue LEDs for phones you should buy from www.nymax.nu (Swedish site)
