Okay I am fixin to make some of these, but I have a few questions. First off has anyone figured out a way to make them so you can put new batteries in when needed? And secondly how long will one of those batteries run two leds?

i would go with the button "watch batteries" that are about the size of a nickel

the "square" in the middle is the watch batery, when a drink is placed on it the contacts on either "plate" of the coaster touch the battery and complete the circuit, stack several batteries as needed, they should be relatively easy to change anyway, and they last several months even years in a watch that is under continuous use, two leds used once in a while wont take that much powah

i had an old radio that broke, i took it apart and cut off the section that held 3 AA battaries, salvaged the metal thingys. soldered the + to a wire and the - to another wire. Used 3 AA battaries to power a 4.5V blue LED. works like a charm.
