bout a month abo i decided to buy a chieftec cx01 case but alas this friggin country doesn't serve modders (not even normal ppl:P) so i couldn't get one from anywhere so i decided to make a normal case from a crappy old midi-tower.

First thing colour: black of course but totally only the srews are chrome :)

of course i didn't want a lousy paintjob like some i've seen so i took the case to parts completely

rivet drillin is fun! :D

case fully dismantled :)

sorry but no pics of the painting process ( my camera was on the charger)
painting was done with black rally paint ( or hard car paint which doesn't scratch that easily) but to add a little safety to the no scratching business i added a layer of matte lacquer which gave it that little bit of grey-ish look while exposed to light (imho it looks great)

as you can see i added an extra hdd rack (riveted it to the original)

Image

close-up of the windowed psu (has blue lighting hope it won't blow up :)

the side covers are also black and the left one is windowed but i'll need to cut a new window from plexi since the old one was getting scratched

lighting of the inside will be with ub white leds

the front panel will be built from scratch. it will be made of thich plexi or lexan if i can find some lexan around here (no idea where to get one) i tried foming the plexi with a heatgun but it proved to be really hard to do on large surfaces so i'll stick with lexan if i'll find some if not then i'll try to make something of plexi. the idea is to make a very clean front panel which would have the sound plaster audigy 2 drive istalled into it so that only the knobs and connectors would be visible a slot for the floppy disk and a stealthed dvd-rom drive the plexi would be painted from the back in one layer of black paint which would give it the feel that it is black plexi and make the colour resistant to scratches an lcd and the leds would be also integrated to the front panel

the extra hdd-rack was necessary for the sheer number of drives this thing will operate (nine actually :)

the config that will be implemented (this will be my home gameing machine)

- MSI Neo2 Pfisr mobo
- Radeon 9800XT vidcard with VIVO (only if there is one i can find with vivo if not i'm sticking with anything that's similarly fast but has vivo)
- 2x 256 MB RAM dual channeled
- 2800 Mhz PIV @ 3.5 Ghz (my best stable ocd state)
- Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum
- Pioneer 16* DVD rom (prolly i'll put the dvd burner from my camo project in place of this one) (oh and it's not paionear like on the markets here :D)
- onboard gigabit lan
- 3*200 gig Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 hdds in raid 5
- 1*80 gig S-ata Samsung Spinpoint (just cos of the 3 year warranty :)
- 1*80 gig maxtor hdd
- 2*(2*10gig) seagate hdds in stripping raid
- some crappy keyboard with some other crappy stuff

front still in the devs will send more pics while assembling the day after tomorrow
