oneday this idea popped into my head to make a remote starter for my computer.

things you need.

1x wireless doorbell (one that works off of 2 C batteries or 3.0v)
wire
solder and iron.
heatshrink or electrical tape
(*edit)super or hot glue

Image

that is the doorbell i used. zenith brand ~$12 US. open it up and rip out the pcb, make sure all wires stay intact.

Image inside view of the button. there is a set of jumpers in this and in the reciever, make sure they match.

(my computer crashed and i lost all the images so there is a jump to completed object here.)

Image
here you can see the pcb attached to the back of my psu. all wires were lengthened with the use of solder and a very small guage copper wire. i used electrical tape but heatshrink works too.

the necessary wires to lengthen are the +and- power wires, the black and red one. adn the negative speaker wire. (yellow) they are all labled on the pcb. the positive speaker wire can be cut off.

Image
here you can see the two power leads connected to the standby power on the atx connector (i painted the end of the ground lead black so i wouldnt mix them up). they are in pins 9 and 7. (red to purple, black to black) this will provide power to the reciever even when the computer is off.

next step.Image
i took the lengthened speaker wire adn
Image
made this little box. here i cut the negative lead from the powerbutton and spliced the speaker wire into it. then filled the box with hot glue to hold the connection together. this is all that needs to be done because the motherboard needs a negative signal to start. this is what this provides.

close it all up and test it out. if it doesnt work check the jumper settings.
this mod would work better in a plastic or wood case because metal reflects the signal. however it works im my steel case but at only a very close range ~5feet(1.8meters)
overall im happy with the results. if anyone has any quesitons just state them below.
happy modding

ps ill try to get some better pics, but they wont be up untill i get my RMA'd harddrive back from newegg. no photoshopping until then

Clean, relatively simple and good pics/"tutorial". We really need more of this kind of stuff here. Thanks. :)

very cool, congrats on getting it to work. about the shot of the inside, where the wires are attached to the 20-pin plug, id say for ya to shorten them, a lot. that much copper wireing uncovered, might not be a good idea.
