Hi, i'm attempting to recreate this on veroboard but so far i'm getting nothing when i plug it in! I think i might have wired up my two LEDs wrong :( can anyone send me a veroboard/stripboard diagram or tell me how parallel LEDs should be wired up? thanks in advance!

ok i've figured out the LEDs, but the LEDs are always lit up (even when HDD lead not plugged in) , and don't appear to change at all when it is in. I've tried removing the capacitor and nothing changes. . . :( i'm kinda new to this, but would putting a transistor in this circuit make it pulse on and off, rather than dim or bright?

I'm sure i've got the circuit layout right on my veroboard, but the LED won't light up at all when HD is active. . .

o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o | o o o --5v
o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o|R|o o o
HD+--o o 1|o o 4|o o o o o o o o o o|1|o o o
HD- --o o 2|o o 5|o o o o --LED-- o o | o o o
o o o o o 3|o o 6|o o o o o o o o o o o o o o --Ground
o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o
o o o o Opto-isolator o o o o o o o o o o o o

Hope people can read this, i've made my circuit simpler (no 2nd LED or R2) and i've wired pin 4 to Ground instead of the capacitor, but i've not shown it on this as it looks bad enough without another wire on it. I've not made a circuit since i was at school and this is my first real mod attempt. . . any obvious mistakes anyone can spot? thanks for any help!
