 Post subject: nobie on leds

iam a real nobie havenot built one yet but could any one tell me what led
i should use and what resistor for a 20 led (10 parrell ) to get the brightest efect out of led also would like to use the single one thats on continuly thanks for info savage@astound.net

You have to make a driving circuitry for those leds because 4017 chip can't supply enough current for your needs. You can make one with a NPN transistor quite easily but perhaps in this case, if you don't know that much about leds, you may not know how those transistors work... Idea is this:

thanks for the info japala
so if i used 6v 20ma led on this cicuit it would be alright ?
what is the formula for figering resister is it ohms law or somthing differant

would these be the right parts wasnt sur about capacitor
is the voltage to high and it is non polar
also led spendy but probablt worth it

oh yea is this rightn also if i got 5v 20ma with a foward voltage of 3.5 4v
2 inparell i would need a resistor of 27ohm @ .o6 watt or would it be 27 ohm * 10 at .o6w thanks man
