It looks like you could use something like tape wrapped around the supports between the HDs to prevent the top one from falling on the bottom one. I love the simplicity of the setup. If I needed something like that, I would do it and show it off to all my friends because it's just plain cool.

I'm still using this same "prototype" and the drives sit in exactly the same place where I placed them. As you said, that tape could still be a good safety measure.

Hi..

Funny, I made exact the same modd. in my case and put it in a danish forum, a guy there gave me this link, and I must say, they look alike, only difference is that I used those metal-things without holes in them, then I drilled the holes myselves. I use this mod in my server, 2 IBM 120GXP 120GB, ontop of eachother, it works like a dream. They are no more than hand-warm after 2 weeks of work, so this modd. is doing the job.

Anders.

how about tin snipping some empty slot covers and fixing them inbetween the top and lower screws? this would prevent any slippage whatsoever :D

Why not just add a washer (or was it "shim", it's called "Beilagscheibe" in german (-: ) to the screws to make them hold tighter?

if you are realy concerned with the drives falling down you could use non perforated backplates and make your own holes.
i am however wondering how you attached the backplates to the botom plate of your case, i did not se anny screws there on the picture, did i miss them or did you glue or weld it???

I placed small rubber pads at the end of each PCI plate and the whole systems just sits at the bottom. No vibrations to the rest of the case etc. Just be carefull when you move the computer. :)

Why not bend the tabs over just above the bottom drive and attach the top drive with the underside mounting holes. You would have to install the top drive first then the bottom drive.
As for securing the rack to the bottom of the case a couple of case screws would work to hold it in place...
