hi, i think this is a great idea, and i bought the blue led at radioshack. there are two blue leds there http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F010%5F012%5F002%5F009&product%5Fid=276%2D316 and http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F010%5F012%5F002%5F009&product%5Fid=276%2D311
i got the second one because they didnt have the other in stock, was that the right one, or does it matter? the one i got says it has a typical voltage of 5V and a maximum voltage of 6V. and do i need a resistor for this?
any halp would be appreciated thanks

Inside the mouse is 5 volts and if you led is rated to 5 volts you don't need a resistor. That second one is ok but that 300mcd is quite dim so lets hope that it is still enough for this.

Yes, that is correct. That first one is a lot brighter so it would be better to use it. Why not test that 300mcd blue with your mouse and see is it enough. Just be carefull not to damage it if you are planning on returning it.

I already answered yes but maybe it wasn't so clearly visible. :) Yes, you need to have resistor. 55-65 ohms should be enough.

and you said yes meaning i wouldnt need one, and your last reply said that you said i did need one. i'm confused 8O i looked for resistors, and i found a 50ohm is that good enough, if i need one :?: . i'm really sorry im asking all these questions. thanks for the help

hehe, you need to get a resistor. That is a fact with that 2600cmd led. 50 ohms is a bit low value but the led will be brighter. If it becomes too hot ( should be cool to the touch) you'll need a resistor with a higher value... 55-70 should do it.
