This is such a neat mod, I'm trying to copy it on my 1.75litre Jack Daniel's bottle (4inx4in base, 12in height) :D There is no greater form of flattery than immitation, IMO.

I'm having a few tech questions seeing as I've never used SBCs or Mini-ITX components.

*For starters, I was checking out out the 60W Morex kit and it says that full size CD-ROM drives with a HDD and SBC would damage the board or would be unable to power it. Did you have any trouble with undervolting and is the 60watt kit enough? I may add another 2.5" HDD later, so with two HDDs, the SBC, Pentium III & HSF, exhaust fan, and sometimes a full-sized CD-ROM drive... will 60w be enough?
*If I don't buy the kit (or if you didn't), will a standard laptop power supply (AC-DC 12v) work? Or do I need to buy one special to the ITX PSU?
*For the OS install, can you simply use a normal 40-pin IDE cable for the CD/DVD ROM drive, and a 44-pin cable for the HDD? Or do they need to be on the same cable? I really don't want to buy a 40-44pin converter in addition to a 44-pin IDE cable. ;)
*How big was your VGA exhaust fan? And where did you find a round casing? It sure fits nice in the neck :D
*Did you have to buy any addition cables for power/connections than those that came in the Morex 60w kit?
*Did you encounter any issues with mounting the PSU or HDD with double sided tape, such as shorting out/etc.?

------------------
Here's what I have so far:
SBC (same as you)
Morex 60w kit (assuming you used kit)
same processor
same ram
40gig 2.5" Fujitsu HDD
Sunun 50mm slim casefan (for exhaust)
44-pin IDE cable (for HDD)
40-pin IDE cable (for CD-ROM during installation)
am I missing anything?
------------------

I plan to drill 3 quarterinch holes on each side, except the front, near the bottom of my bottle. Then create some sort of exhaust hole arrangement in the neck so I don't need to damage the cap (therefor keeping it authentic-looking). In your experience with heat coming from your setup, will I need to increase the intake outlets or does this seem enough (just guess :) )

Thanks a lot! I'm sick of my beige Alpha case running my home server, this will be kick-@ss!

Hi Chez,
if I were you I would buy a 120W PicoPSU, now that is the smallest ATX PSU ever built and powerful. When I built my pc the itx-psus were the smalest ones.
My config is consumpting 30-35W at full load. With additional HDD and CD-ROM the 60 could be enough. I think the "bottleneck" of your config can be on the 5V rail. Everything is using that.
As I know the converter regulating the 5V, 3.3V and -12V only so the +12v just goes trough the board. This is the reason why you need properly regulated 12V DC power supply to feed the converter.
The fan in the neck comes from my old Sapphire Radeon 8500 card.
You can use different cables for IDE devices.
I replaced the ATX power connector on the cable which is came with the mobo to be able to connect directly it to the converter board.
The tape for mountig is a good thing until you have to replace that... :)
Good luck!

Janos, I have an interest in your modded mac case. Can you share what motherboard you used to fit into the case and what changes were made to account for the IO ports in the back. Also did you add a new drive bay in the top to account for the new motherboard ? I this was already asked can you point me in the direction of the post or site. Thanks

Hi keyzib, mATX mobo fits only into that case, I used a K8NM-FISR type mobo from MSI. I used a Pioneer A110 DVD writer because it is not so long drive and I cutted a new drive door for it. This way the DVD drive does not cover the mobo.
Here you can find pictures about my Mac mod:

Shucks, sorry to hear that you didn't win the Cnet.com / Help.com Mod My PC Contest.

Mod My PC - And the Winners are...

I thought you had it in the bag...the only competition I really saw was the one made out of a mannequin.
