Hi, I tried to make a mouse with an LED inside it, and I found the power and hooked it up and and it all worked EXCEPT - whenver the LED was on the mouse curser wouldn't work on the screen. I tried lots of different connection points inside the mouse, and there was plenty of power (it's a serial mouse and from different points I could get anything from 1.5-13 volts and lots in between). I checked heaps of times for short-circuits, so I know it wasn't that, it was just really annoying. Has anyone else had this problem, do they know what's wrong?

If you take the power from a data pin the led will shine but the mouse will not work any more. I think that this is the problem here. It is hard to find the right spot on a serial mouse because PC's serial bus operates with +12 and -12 logical levels and the 5 volts is generated inside the mouse from these levels. Just keep looking. :)

use a voltage regulator and you'll get 5 volt or what ever voltage the regulator you choose gives.
