Japala can you do a harddrive window whit some leds? It would be very cool. I have seen some guides on bit-tech and hightechmods ( rauter's mod too :) ) but they are a little hard to understand. I would like if you can give it a shoot :D

Thanks for your time 8)

Sorry for my english

I'm all for the hard drive window mod. The results are amazing. I plan to launch my own modding site this summer and a hard drive window will be one of the first mods I do. What else would I do with the old hard drives that I have lying around?

I think that I answered this a while back in some other thread... anyway, I'm not sure if I'll be doing this because there are so many "good" tutorials about this mod. If I can come up with something else to add to a hd than a window and lights I'll might do it but I would need some good ideas first. You have any? :)

Japala, see it like this: every mod site works like news sources: different content about same thing. Some articles/go-throughs take something up and and forgets/don't bother about writing about another thing which a second mod site may bring up in their article instead.

Different sites also uses different solutions on different problems.

So if a person wants to do the mod he/she could read the a couple articles about the mod on different sites and get a good perspective what they should watch out etc.

And don't forget that many of your visitors/fans ;) maybe only reads your articles (ok, probably some other sites too).

You probably see that this is my perspective when you look at my site: no entirely unique mod. Although I try to make unique mods.

Paint the inside parts of the hdd that can be painted, use either the spray paint, or the pens that are listed for the card drawing. put in a window, use some uv led on the hd window. If i had some old dead hdd or a job, i would try this, but i dont want to screw up my only 2 good hdd.

there was an article in an old issue of 2600 magazine (http://www.2600.com/) on turning an old hdd into a speaker. i had to deal with putting the two wires from a sereo (red and black) on two leads for a coil somewhere, in the head i think... if you cant hear anything turn the stereo up to full volume and/or move the wires. i got it to work, and it was REALLY cool, but i threw the drive away... :( cant you imagine youre hard drives making that bios beep instead of that speaker? hehe!
you could also hook the lights in the hdd up to some pin on the ide cable (i forgot which one, but i think you told me, so you would know) so that the lights only come on when the hdd is in use, kinda like that puny led on the front of your case, only bigger, and it lets you know exactly which drive is being used (if you have multiple drives, as i do). slick, eh?

I made a HDD speaker too, long time ago.
It wasn't very HiFi speaker, but it was funny anyway :)
