Tearing up the Talkman

These are the basic components that make up the Mobira Talkman base unit. A lot of through-the-hole components were used back then and it is almost comical to compare these old mobile phones to their modern day equivalents.
For this project I only need to outside skin of the phone and all the circuitry had to go. Same goes for the metal inside the base unit...

Metallic alloy used on these units is quite soft so it was relatively easy saw away a major block from the center.

Roughly cut base and a radiator unit in this photo. Phones these days usually weight something around 120-140 grams and that radiator must have weighed three times that much alone. These kind of phones were heavy and not something to carry in your jeans pocket.

Making more room inside by filing off any excess metal. Again, soft material making this task quite easy.
