Getting ready for paint
Prime the surface. A very important step if you want to have a durable finishing on the cabinet. There are several brands and types of primers available, just choose the one you like the most and that is suitable for the wooden surfaces.
I'm heavily into RC cars and multicopters so I have quite a selection of airbrush paints for them. Again, use any brand of paints that is suited for the primer you selected.
Looking good already. I didn't want to add stripes or anything like that to the paint job but I had to come up with something to cover up that plain black surface.
I haven't painted anything in detail for years so I opted to use a method that would guarantee a perfect end result - printable sticker paper.
There are a lot of sites that share both bitmap and vector graphics related to games and gaming. Use keywords like "mario vector" etc. in Google to find them. Just pick the theme you want and fire up your favorite graphics program. As I'm building this as a Nintendo related cabined, I opted to go with a Mario theme.
I found myself printing a lot of sheets trying to get the dimensions right. Especially the screen was bit difficult as there is an opening for the "monitor" and the graphics have to sit perfectly aligned to it.
