I think that couple of videos will do much better job on showing you how this effect looks like in real life. Smaller one needs XVid codec to play properly and the other is a standard Windows Media Video -file.

In the first clip you can see some blue light shining through the eyes. That is because there is a blue power led behind the two red ones. This gives an interesting, purple color when the red leds are dimming. In the second clip the blue led is removed and you can see only the pure red color coming from the eyez.

I hope you enjoyed the show. The mod itself is really easy to complete and there are tons of options where to install the circuit inside the case. Or why not install it externally to your keyboard, speakers or make the entire desktop glow.

By using the optoisolator, we make sure that the circuit doesn't affect the motherboard in any way. Short circuit the leds or do something similar and the motherboard will be safe from the increased current draw from the PSU. This will also allow you to connect several leds as 'ACT'-leds. Why not mix different colors or make larger areas shine with the help of several ultrabright leds.

This circuit should be usable to indicate for example LAN activity from the network adapter and its activity led. With some little modifications you should be able to make it indicate your keyboard activity or mouse movement. It would be most interesting to hear your ideas on where to embed this circuit so please, share them in our forum. And please remember where you first saw this mod, it might start to spread like nothing else. ;)
