GPU Benchmarks

In the GPU-tests we used the integrated HD 6550D. This time the competitors are a variety of low end graphic cards, but again on different platforms, so direct comparisons are unfair.

3DMark Vantage

First off the 3Dmark Vantage, and the HD 6550D sits between the last generation HD 5550 and HD 5570. The HD 55-series were tested using the 4 GHz i7-870, which makes this result even more remarkable. The entry level HD 6450 and GT 220 are left far behind. While the result is nice, it's nowhere near the 5600+ stated on the motherboard box.

Average FPS

In the X3:Terran Conflict-test the competitors are the HD 5450, which is the lowest spec discrete graphic card we've ever tested, and the HD 4290 integrated graphics of the 890GX-chipset. The CPU on the HD 4290 and HD 5450 runs was Phenom X4 965 BE (3,4 GHz).

In short it not only absolutely destroys the HD 4290, but also the HD 5450 and GT220.

Far Cry 2

While Far Cry 2 definitely counts as modern FPS-game and looks very nice, it's still the least demanding game in our current graphic card testing suite and thus got a place in here as well. The HD 6550D scores identically with the HD 5550. Average of 22 FPS isn't really enough to play the game, but by lowering the settings one can finally atleast try the game on integrated GPU.

The end results...

The conclusion of the GPU-performance is that while the HD 6550D still is not suitable for demanding games, it's still a LOT faster than any integrated solution we've seen before. It also does a good job at making low end discrete graphics completely obsolete, because it packs similar performance and all the same connections.
