In Vantage it's the hex cores that score the best, and behind those it's the quads according to the clock speed. The difference between the 980 and the 975 is just about the same as between the previous 975 and 970. After all it's just the same Deneb core running at varying clock speeds.
3DMark05
The old 3dmark doesn't really make use of all the cores, so it's just a matter of clock speed here. At stock speeds the 9-series quads are lined up nicely one after another. The 980BE is naturally the fastest and overclocking boosts the result by another 2400 points or about 8,5%.
X3: Terran Conflict
To get a better idea of real life gaming performance, we used the X3 Terran Conclict demo. As expected, it's again the 980 leading the bunch both stock speed and clocked. The overclock gives a nice average improvement of 9 FPS.
