Temperatures

The CPU-cooler fan was running at full speed all the time, while the GPU was using its own fan controller. In practice this meant that under load the GPU-fan was running at 2500 RPM. The ambient temperature during the tests was 24,5 C.

Considering the high ambient temperature the case does well in our temperature tests. The GPU temperature hits 87 C with the fan turning at 2500 RPM, while the CPU maxes at 54 C. These are typical numbers for this setup, and it's worth keeping in mind that the case can house yet another five fans, so improving these numbers should be a simple matter of adding a couple of fans to the roof.

Noise

As stock the case comes with three 120 mm fans, two of which - the front panel ones - are equipped with white leds and thankfully also a switch for turning the said leds off. Corsair doesn't give any specifications for these fans, but in use these run at about 1200 RPM and are pleasantly quiet. Despite the quiet fans the overall impression of the case is noisy, thanks to all those fan holes.

The Carbide series is yet another product area for Corsair to conquer, the price of the 400R sits at the 100 dollar mark, and also in Finland you can get the case for roughly hundred euros. Looking at the specifications and feature Corsair hasn't really needed to cut out too many things that have made the Obsidian series so excellent. You still get largely tool-free installation, good cable management and good build quality. The case isn't quite as sturdy as the 800D and 650D we've reviewed earlier, but still sturdy enough not to feel flimsy or cheap.

While the case gets extra points for all the optional cooling it offers, those also lead into the only downsides we could think of. The main problem of the case is the lack of proper dust filter on the front intake. Secondly there's a long dust filter on the bottom which needs to be removed through the rear of the case. Finally most of the roof is full of holes for the fans, and with no exhaust fans, these aren't helping the cooling but rather just letting in dust. I'd like to see Corsair block the roof- and side vents to help this problem. Without all those open fan holes and with the dust filter problems sorted it would be an excellent case, but even as-is, it's still yet another solid product from Corsair.

Current price for the TJ08-E is around 110 euros.
