Benchmarks
In order to really test these latest cards we've desperately needed a DX11 test bed. Our earlier benchmarks have been ran on a Vista setup, which obviously only supports DX10, but instead of just updating the OS, we decided to build a new rig alltogether.
- Processor: Intel i7 870 (@4022 MHz)
- Motherboard: MSI P55-GD80
- Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 2*2 GB DDR3 2000 CL9
- Hard drive: Seagate 7200.10 250 GB
- Power supply: Xigmatek NRP-HC1201
- Case: Dimastech Easy
The new system also meant new benchmarks and new comparison results also ran on the earlier cards. It was a lot of work, but we hope it was worth.
3DMark Vantage
The new 3Dmark is said to launch before the end of the year, but until then the DX10 Vantage still remains the newest version. We ran both the common "Performance" preset as well as the mode remanding "High".

On performance-preset the HD5870 is off to a good start and leaves behind both the GTX470 and the HD5770 crossfire with a clear margin. Overclocking boosts the score by another 390 points.

It's the same story in the high-preset with the HD5870 winning, HD5770 CFX coming second and GTX 470 third. These three cost about the same so it will be interesting to see which of the three wins the most tests.
3DMark06

As usual we also ran the older 3DMark. This is a DX9-benchmark and these days more CPU-limited than anything else, but it still serves the purpose of putting the cards in order. This time it's the GTX 470 that scores the best at stock speeds, but when overclocked the HD5870 goes past.
