The front bezel is held in place with four plastic clips and can simply be pulled off. Now some may get mad about the word "plastic" in there, but Lian-Li claims the material was chosen because metal-on-metal contact is the worst possible vibration- and noise wise. Plastic eases this issue a little bit, so it was used. Next to these clips and the dust filter frame there's very little plastic in the whole case.

Removing the bezel reveals the huge dust filter and the three (!) 140 mm fans that suck air in to the case. Just above the fans, under the filter, there's the switch for the on-board fan controller. The controller is a three-speed affair (800-980-1200 RPM) similar to that seen in Antec Tri-Cool fans. Even though the fan controller is meant to be of the set-and-forget type solutions, it still doesn't make any sense why it's hidden under the bezel and the dust filter. Why not just place it to the bottom of or on the back of the case, out of the eyes, but still accessible without removing any panels?

The internal layout of the case is like in no other case we've seen. The space is divided into three sections, one for the power supply and the external drives, one for the motherboard and one for the hard drives. The top section is for the power supply and doesn't have addition fans. There's room for power supplies 22 cm long, which should be enough for most users and also enough room for the unnecessary cables. However if you feel like 22 cm isn't enough, you can always order an additional power suplly bracket from Lian-Li that allows even longer power supplies to be mounted.

The middle section is for the motherboard and features the most fans. There are two 140 mm fans on the front dedicated to pushing air through the middle section and also the bottom front fan helps in this. Also the rear 140 mm fan is in this section of the case, so temperature-wise this case can be expected to be one of the best ones we've tested. Due to the E-ATX and CEB support, there's definitely enough room for the latest graphic cards and there's also a support bar to keep the long and heavy cards nicely in place.

The bottom section is dedicated for the six S-ATA hard drives. In this section there are two 80 mm fans to keep the drives cool, and also one of the front fans partially pushes air through this section. We'll take a closer look at the S-ATA back plate and the HDD-cages later on.

The PC-X2000 also features a removable motherboard tray. This tray is accessed via the right side panel and is held in place with two screws. On the bottom one can see the S-ATA panels that each have three normal S-ATA connectors and a single molex-connector to power up the disks.

The side panels are made of 2 mm anodized aluminum and also come with supporting beams along all edges. There's also a thin layer of noise dampening material to silence any high-frequency noise. Both side panels have similar holes for the external drives and also the right one is held in place with the handy locking mechanism.

In the PC-X2000, there's room for six HDDs in the bottom section of the case. The case comes with S-ATA rear panel that keeps the data- and power connectors in place. The HDDs are mounted to aluminum sledges and then simply pressed into place. The cables still have to be routed from the PCB to the motherboard connectors, but each of the two boards only require a single molex power connector and thus they reduce the cable mess in this part of the case.
