When you turn the power switch on, the three leds next to it show the state of the battery, and the backlight lights on. Luckily the backlight only looks blue in this photo, in real life it's white. There are four settings for the brightness of the backlight, and it can also be switched off to save the battery. It also automatically switches off after a while of inactivity, which should help achieve the 10 day battery life.

The corner of the keys are rounded to give a comfortable touch, and the buttons themselves are concave, which, according to Logitech, further enhances the typing touch. It's hard to say how much the concave design matters, but in practice the design works excellently and the K800 makes typing a real pleasure. Typing is also very quiet, which further adds to the typing experience and is something I personally find important on keyboards.

Conclusion

PROS
  • Feel when typing
  • Quality
  • Unified receiver
  • Quiet

  • CONS
  • Battery life (though expected)
  • Award
    Gold Award!

After the original Illuminated being such a liked and popular keyboard, the K800 was in for a challenge to keep up with the reputation. In our eyes it has succeeded in this challenge. It packs the same nice looks, backlight and ofcourse the excellent typing touch as the original model. For added bonus the keyboard comes with unifying receiver, which enables you to use the same receiver for other wireless Logitech products.

Really the only downside of the Illuminated K800 is the fact that the battery life is nowhere near what we've used to seeing with wireless keyboards. That said, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the backlight does draw quite a lot of power and despite the power saving features, you'll need to keep that recharging cable at hand.
