Out of the box the X4 is a gloss finished black beauty with pretty much the standard key layout. Really the only difference to the usual layout is the wide space-bar and lacking Start-key on the right side, which also moves the Alt Gr is one step the the right from its usual place. As extra features there are six macro buttons along the left edge, media keys on the top and also some other special keys we'll see later on. The X4 also comes with a small attached wrist rest.

A closer look at the materials. As said, most of the X4 is made from clear black plastic, also known as the fingerprint plastic. It looks beautiful out the box, but after a while it collects all the dust (and cat hair, ed. note ;) ) as well as greasy finger prints. Really I'd prefer matte finish over this gloss black. The wrist rest is made from rough plastic and while it doesn't collect dust and fingerprints, it isn't particularly comfortable either. Some rubber/leather finish would be nicer in the long run.

A closer look at the left end of the keyboard. There are six macro keys with a switch at the top for changing the profile. Next to the button there are three leds showing the active profile. There's and also an "Auto" led for when a program with specified profile is in use. Again moving to the right there's a macro recording button for making new macros on the fly.
