The latest version of the Microsoft Intellipoint mouse driver is 6.31, and it's very much the same as the earlier version we've already gone through in our earlier Sidewinder reviews. Anyway here are some hilights.

The thing I like the most is the program specific re-mapping of the buttons. In this example the tilt wheel has been set to change the weapon in CoD4, but I'm sure everyone can think of different ways of maximizing the use of the extra buttons. This feature may become handy especially in older games that don't even support thumb buttons, as one can make the thumb buttons to appear as (for example) keys "J" and "K" and then set "J" and "K" for some abilities in-game. This lets you make your way around the limitations.

The other party trick of the X8 is of course the macros! Again, I don't really play games where I could make use of these, but I'm sure there are many players out there waiting to get their hands on the macro-editor. The only use I could think of was to combine the program-specific control and a custom macro to make a prank at your friend. In this example, in the CoD4 again, pressin a key opens the console, types /quit and presses enter. How convenient.
