Mionix Keid 20 - Headphones for gamers

Now that the headphones are out of the box, it's hard not to notice that the headphones have taken some clear influences from one of the most popular gaming headphones on the market, the Steelseries Siberia. Of course, at closer inspection, there are some differences between the two. For example the Keid 20 uses fake-leather cushions on the headphones, while the original Siberia headphones have a softer satin-type fabric.

As we can see Mionix has also integrated the microphone straight onto the left-side of the headphones, which can split some opinions. Some would have wanted to place the microphone somewhere else, as with the older Siberia-series, or to hide it like it's possible with the Siberia Neckband and newer Siberia headphones. Nevertheless, this implementation works just fine, and as long as the microphone works as it's supposed to it shouldn't bother anybody that much.

Mionix has also added a "remote-controller" to the headphones. Granted, the ability to change the volume on the fly and to mute the microphone without changing the volume settings on your computer is nice. Especially when talking about a headset, which is designed to be used as a gaming headset. Situations, especially in the LAN-environment change constantly, and one might want to boost the volume momentarily due to distracting noises or such. And for this application the remote does work. The only problem that I have with the remote is its build-quality. The remote just seems a bit too plasticy and flimsy to really be durable.

Moving onto the wires of the headphone, which are all nice and sleeved giving them a good look. The connectors are gold-plated, just like with almost every other headphone on the market. While everything is all fine so far with the wires, in addition to the remote-controller feeling flimsy, the wires for the headset just enforce the flimsy feel of the headphones. I have never seen such thin wire used on normal headphones, let alone ones with an integrated microphone. The positive thing about the thin wires, is the fact that they bend nicely. I'm just a bit worried about their durability.
