MSI P55-GD80

The GD80 is one of MSIs top offering for the users that want to use the newest LGA1156 socket CPUs. MSI has launched a couple newer motherboards, which are based on the GD80 but they implement the Nvidia NF-200 and Lucid Hydra 200 chips. MSI has clearly taken those chips into consideration early on, as this motherboard is pretty much identical to the other ones. How has MSI prepared for the other chips? Continue reading and find out.

Most important features

  OC Genie

Automated overclocking, which should overclock your system according to your hardware.

  SuperPipe

8 mm thick heatpipe that is used to distribute the heat from the power-circuitry.

  DrMos

DrMOS, short for Driver-MOSFET, which should be superior to standard MOSFETs which are found from most other motherboards. This improvement should increase efficiency and performance. Basically a driver-mosfet packs the driver IC, top mosfet and bottom mosfet, all in a single package. This means that as the components are closer to each other, they should give less noise in the currents, while having better efficiency.

  APS (Active Phase Changing)

Just like many other manufacturers, MSI has gone green, by adding APS to their motherboards. This means that unnecessary power-phases can be disabled when they are not needed resulting in better efficiency.

  V-Check Points & V-Switch

Provides a means to control and measure the voltages which are used on the motherboard.

  Direct OC

Direct OC is basically two physical buttons on the motherboard, which can be used to adjust the base-clock of the CPU, when the feature is enabled.
