Sapphire HD4770 Gaming on a budget

Benchmarks

All the benchmarks were run with the same setup. The processor was overclocked to 4.05GHz just to make sure that the CPU isn't the bottleneck on the benchmarks. One must remember that the results that we achieved cannot be directly compared to other systems and the achieved overclocks depend greatly on the card. Unfortunately, due to the fact that I'm still working on rerunning some of the benchmarks on the newer drivers, this card is going to be compared with results that were gotten with older drivers. Some of the results may be a little bit different with the newest drivers, but the differences aren't that drastic in most cases.

3DMark06

While running at stock frequencies the HD 4770 was left behind by every other card in our database, other than the HD 4670. However it was right behind the 8800 GTX. After overclocking the card, it actually rose in front of the HD4850 Golden Sample from Gainward, and not that far behind the 512 MB version of the HD4870. Not bad for a cheap card like this.

3DMark Vantage 1.0.1

3DMark is a computer benchmark suite by Futuremark Corporation designed to determine the DirectX performance of graphics cards. The full range of 3DMark products ranges are 3DMark99, 3Dmark99 MAX, 3DMark2000, 3DMark2001, 3Dmark2001 SE, 3DMark03, 3DMark05, 3DMark06 and 3DMark Vantage. Every new edition of 3DMark uses the latest in 3D technology to deliver objective and forward-looking measurements for real world performance.

This time we have chosen to run both the performance- and extreme-settings with the cards, to find out how well the cards cope with higher resolutions and more demanding graphics.

With Vantage the HD4770 actually passes the 8800 GTX and when overclocked it comes close to the 512 MB version of the HD 4870.

With the Extreme preset of Vantage, the situation remains the same as the HD 4770 stays at the tail of the pack, but not that far from the HD 4850.
