The rear panel of the case shows how the SG03 has been made so small - the PSU is located next to the motherboard rather than on top of it. This setup was common in the early days of ATX-standard when passive heatsinks were used on CPUs and the fan on the power supply was responsible of providing airflow through it. It appears we've come a full circle as this idea can also be found behind Silverstone's design. Later on we'll see how the design has been updated to meet the challenges of today's hardware.

Both side panels are held in place with thumbscrews even though the right side panel only has to be removed when mounting the optical drive. As a neat little detail there's an extra PCI-slot on the top of the case that can be used for extra connectors or for example fan controller that in normal layout would be on the bottom of the case.

Also the bottom of the case differes from a traditional one. On the bottom there are two 3,5" hard drive bays, each of which are held in place with two screws. After the screws are undone the drive bay hinges down and the drive can be slotted in. This design is really unique and practical. The thick aluminum drive bays should also do their part in keeping the hard drives cool.

Internal Design

With the left side panel removed one can see the extra support that runs across the case. This plate is important in keeping the case sturdy as the thin and light weight aluminum itself isn't actually the toughest of materials. Beside supporting the case this also gives extra support to the power supply and also acts as a mounting bracket for the external 3,5" drive.

Cooling

There's a single 120 mm cooling fan in the SG03 and it's located to the front of the case, which indeed is also the only place where there's room for a fan. The fan is mounted to one of the two large pieces of plastic in the case - the front grill frame. In the frame there are multiple holes so that the fan can be mounted to exactly the right height to either cool the CPU or the graphic card. If the fan is mounted to the very end of the grill then there's also room for a second 120 mm fan, but only one comes bundled with the case. There's also a dust filter in between the aluminum front mesh and the fan. Not maybe the easiest filter to clean, but not impossible either.

The model of this single fan is F121225SL and it's a ball bearing fan specified for 12 V 0,20 A (2,4 W). Unfortunately this fan takes its power straight from the power supply 12 V line instead of from the motherboard and thus can't be controlled. There's still a RPM cable that can be connected to the motherboard for RPM-monitoring so I don't see any reason why Silverstone didn't use the same connector for power.
