The Steelseries Ikari Optical And Logitech G9
At first glance I thought I had two left-handed mice on my desk. The shape of the mice is a bit different that what we've accustomed to, as the right mouse button is longer than the left one. This does make sense however as the middle finger is longer than the index-finger.
The shape is designed so that it can be used with a finger/claw-grip or the traditional full palm grip. The design is surprisingly good and at least in my opinion this mouse is a lot more comfortable that some of the older mice that I've used. Sizewise the mice are somewhat larger than the Logitech G9, making them fairly regular sized.
Software
Ikari Optical
The Ikari Optical control software covers all the basics. One the first tab the user can change the CPI-settings of the mouse. It gives the user 3 different possibilities, 400/800, 400/1600 and 800/1600. There is a big note on this screen that warns the user about the 300ms delay when the user changes the sensitivity-setting on the mouse with the 800/1600 setting enabled.
The second tab has just the basic information about Steelseries and for example the link to the mouse's manual online. The Ikari Optical completely lacks the possibility to rebind the buttons of the mouse. I really find this a shame as I'm sure it really wouldn't have been hard to implement in the driver. This mouse however is fairly cheap so you can't get everything.
In general the software is easy to use and I really find it positive that you don't need to install the program onto the computer for the mouse to work properly. The software is only needed to change the CPI settings on the mouse.
