Xigmatek HDT-S1283 vs. Zalman CNPS10X Extreme

In size comparison with the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 the Zalman is both a bit wider and deeper, but just about as high. The biggest difference is still in the weight, as the heatsink of the Xigmatek weights at around 500 g and the Zalman over 700 g. Overall then I'm really pleased to see a proper bolt-through mounting on the Extreme.
Installation

The installation on a S775 motherboard begins by attaching a plastic bracket to the motherboard. This is done by screwing it to a support plate on the backside of the board. Sound simple enough, but unfortunately the same bracket is used for LGA1156, and four tiny plastic parts are required to properly align the screws for the S775 mounting holes. I can see how having dedicated brackets would add the cost, but small parts in cooler installation tend to always be rather annoying.

The second problem during the installation is tightening the two screws under the fan. While it isn't impossible to do this, I found it easier to just remove the fan during the installation. This, on the other hand, is difficult as getting the built-in fan power connector back on requires some patience and nimble fingers. It would help if thumb screws were used, so one could first turn them half-way in by hand before cracking out the screwdriver.
