Intro
It's just under a year since ATI launched their first DirectX11 compatible HD5-series graphic cards,
and now it's time for an update. There's been plenty of rumors going around about AMD's new HD6-series of
cards, but now the long wait is finally over and the first models, HD6850 and HD6870, have been
officially launched. The newcomers have also found their way into our lab, so lets see what they have to
offer.

Radeon HD68xx series

These first HD6-series cards sit somewhere in the upper-mid range of the AMD's range of desktop
graphics. With the launch of the new series, the product naming scheme has been changed and actually the
HD6870 is supposed to replace the HD5850, rather than the HD5870. This change is a bit confusing and
doesn't really help the consumer in comparing different models. These being the mid-range cards, there's
also going to be a high-end range of HD69**-cards coming this year, but there's no word for the actual
model names or specifications as of now.
The cards came directly from AMD so no retail packaging or bundle was included. Both cards look pretty
much the same, but from the weight it's easy to tell that the HD6870 packs much more cooling power than
the HD6850.
