For performance testing we lined the newcomers against the previous generation HD5770, HD5850 and HD5870.
While the main Nvidia competitor for these new cards is the GTX460, unfortunately we only had a GTX470 at
3DMark Vantage (Performance)
Starting off with the Vantage Performance, the cards perform as expected, the HD6850 really puts the HD5770 to shame with a difference of 2800 points and the HD6870 scores a nice 800 points better than the HD5850. The overclocked HD6870 even manages to squeeze past the GTX470.
3DMark Vantage (High)
At the High-preset it's the same story, with the exception that this time also the overclocked HD6870 remains behind the GTX470.
In the Heaven benchmark the new HD6-series cards both score excellently, with also the HD6850 scoring better than the HD5850. The HD6870 comes very close to the HD5870, losing by just 14 points at the more demanding settings and when overclocked only comes second to the Gainward GTX470.
