The X3:Terran Conflict game test doesn't make use of the extra cores, and the FX-8150 comes almost last. The turbo improves the average FPS by 5,7 FPS or 8% and overclocking the CPU to 4,7 GHz makes it an entirely different beast, but overall for gaming the FX-4170 or some other higher clock speed quad core seems like a better idea.
Rendering is one of the most demanding uses for a desktop computer, and exactly the kind of use where eight core CPUs make sense, and indeed here the FX-8150 shines. The single core "1CPU"-test scores aren't impressive, but with all cores in use the overclocked i7 870 is the only thing that can compete with the Bulldozer.
Wprime doesn't seem to like the new CPU, as here the results are barely under 10 seconds. Overclocking does bring the time down to 7,161 seconds, but even this sounds like an awful lot.
