Crucial Ballistix PC3-16000 CL9 EPP

DDR3 Memory Roundup (G.SKILL, CSX, Crucial, Patriot, Corsair and Mushkin)

Crucial separates themselves from the mass, by packaging their memory kit into a small brown cardboard box with just a Crucial sticker that also seals the box. This must mean the important stuff is actually inside the package... ;) When the box is opened you find a small manual and two memory modules separately packaged into antistatic-bags. Plain? It might be, but it works.

When you open the antistatic-bags you can find two vibrantly colored modules that clearly state the modules are Ballistix-modules. As we can see, Crucial has taken a different road even with the cooler. Instead of the larger, heavier heatsinks, Crucial has equipped these modules with standard sized heatsinks.

Both heatsinks actually have a nice orange/silver theme. The PCBs themselves are black in color.

Patriot PVS32G1800LLK

DDR3 Memory Roundup (G.SKILL, CSX, Crucial, Patriot, Corsair and Mushkin)

Just like the CSX memory kit, the Patriot kit comes in a clear plastic package the shows the modules on one side, and a decal on the other. The front has a nice picture that depicts a Zalman CPU-cooler and the memory itself. The front also clearly states which memory kit it is, and the specs are clearly visible.

After the package is opened the front decal opens up revealing the basic instructions etc.

Staying true to the current trend, the Patriot memory kit uses large heatsinks that cover both sides of the modules. They should keep the chips cool enough, even with higher voltages. This time the coolers are actually a combination of copper and aluminum. You can actually see the copper on the inside of the coolers. The PCBs of these modules are the basic green that we.ve seen earlier.

One side of the module has a large Patriot logo on the heatsink while the other side has the specification sticker and a smaller DDR3 logo. All in all this memory kit does look good and I wouldn.t hesitate for one second to show it off through a case window etc.
