Foreword

It seems almost funny when you start thinking about it. More and more people are buying these huge cases for their setups that offer four to five 5.25" drive slots and perhaps two or three 3.5" visible drive slots. What do they install to them? Most of them will have one optical drive, floppy drive and one hard drive. What use does the extra space have? Perhaps people like to think that there is always good to have some reserve? You never know when you will need to buy two additional DVD-drives, couple of fan controllers etc. I see no point on this and that is why I'm going to introduce one of the Shuttle's XPC barebones to you.

Specs tell you that SB62G2 has 220 watt power supply. "What good is that for?" I hear you ask. "There are power supplies with 550 watts and more available these days!" That is true but numbers aren't always everything. Bigger is usually better but should you start thinking what is enough? How many watts you actually need for your setup? There are many wrong beliefs about these small barebones and I hope that I can correct some of them in this review. After this, you should be able to judge for yourself if these little boxes are not usable at all or should you go and buy one to replace that big tower on your desk or on the floor.
