Intro
External hard disks, especially the 2,5" ones, are very handy for people who use laptops and need some extra storage space.
These small disks are also often kept along with the laptop where ever the person might go, which unfortunately also makes
losing them easier. As 2,5" laptop drives already range up to 320 GB in storage space, in worst case scenario they can contain
virtually endless amounts of classified material that in wrong hands can lead to huge problems. And that's excatly what forces us
to use password protected and encrypted hard disks.
Silverstonetek has come up with a nice product aimed at the markets of
secure external hard disks - RFID protected TS01B 2,5" hard disk enclosure. Now let us take a closer look at what
kind of product we have at hand.

PACKAGE & BUNDLE

The drive comes delivered in a stylish dark colored box with specifications and images printed over it. The package
also lets the buyer know that the enclosure uses RFID technology instead of passwords to recognise the user.
The key features of the TS01 are:
- RFID hard drive encryption
- No additional software installation needed for accessing data
- Support 2.5" SATA hard drive
- Plug and Play & Hot-swappable connection
- Includes High quality leather case
- Compatible with both Windows 2000/XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS 9.x (Apple USB support 1.3.5 and greater) and Mac OS 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4

The package contents are: the drive enclosure, a leather case, two USB-cables, two RFID keys (with key rings), user
manual and a small screw driver. The leather case is a nice extra and helps protect the enclosure from scratches when it's
being moved around. It also has a pocket that allows the USB cable to be easily kept with the drive.
RFID

The RFID-keys (Radio-frequency identification) are what really makes this product stand from the crowd. You can think
of RFID tags as bar codes that operate on radio waves rather than optical reading. The tags are about the size of a large
coin (measure about 30 mm in diameter) but being 7 mm thick, are much thicker. There are two of the keys included in the
bundle, so you can for example have one at home for backup and keep one with you, or keep one at work and one at home if
you keep using the disk at those two places.
