Motherboards with USB3-support are coming popular very rapidly, so it's time for us to have a look at yet another USB3-device. This time it was Verbatim that sent us their new external USB3 hard drive. The good thing about this particular drive is that it comes with an USB3-controller card and can thus be used also with older computers that don't have native USB3-support.

The drive arrived to our test packed in a colorful box with plenty of photos of the drive printed all around it. It also has charts to highlight the transfer speed-advantage of the USB3 over e-sata and USB2.
Looking at the specifications it looks like Verbatim uses various types of hard drives inside their USB 3.0-drives, as the specifications for the HDD are very vague. Either way the drive inside the casing is a 3,5" model with, depending of the model, 1-3 TB of space. Verbatim offers their drive a free hotline support and a two-year warranty.
Inside the packaging are the black drive, the USB 3.0-controller with two ports, an USB3-cable and user guides for both the drive and the controller. Being a 3,5" external drive it also requires a separate power supply with two wall socket options.
