IntroRecently we have been focusing on gaming input devices. They are important but when talking about gaming, there are several other components that make or break the experience. One can't aim without a good mouse, one can't play online without proper networking hardware and connection and one can't expect to hear the enemies around the corner without proper audio equipment. We still haven't covered the CPU that runs the whole show or the monitor that gives us the view to play in. And what drives the image on the monitor? This time we'll test out the latest desktop GFX offering that uses nVidia's GPU - the 8800GT. Unit that we have here is a factory overclocked model from XFXForce. You may have heard a lot of good things about the 8800 series, so does the Alpha Dog have what it takes to make it the Top Dog?! |
Package and Content
This is the first time that we have worked together with XFX but I've heard that they usually build up the best bundles with their products. This time we have the usual paper based stuff, a driver CD and the Company of Heroes game with DirectX10 enhancements, Component cable Adapter, couple of DVI->VGA adapters, Molex to Six-pin power connector adapter and the SVideo cable.
Papers bundled with the products are usually quick-start guides or warranty cards. This "leave me alone"/support card seems like an interesting
idea. If you are gaming with your back towards the door, this kind of card is good to have so people trying to enter the room know to be cautious.
There is nothing more scary than have someone place their hand to one's sholder when focusing on the game. I know I have jumped from the chair
pretty fast when this has happened.
Another good find was this Tips document. When dealing with high performance cards, people often forget that they usually produce fair amounts of heat. Efficient cooling is a must so hopefully this document prompts the user to make the necessary improvements.
