DFI Infinity 875 packet

DFI's new Infinity series of motherboards are made overclocking in mind. All three models are crimson red overclocking beasts packed with new set of overclocking features and properties. We have here on our test bed Infinity 875, which is of course Intel Pentium 4 motherboard like it's little brother Infinity 865PE. Whereas third Infinity motherboard is based on Nforce2 ultra chipset and suitable for AMD AthlonXP processors.

Chipset:

Intel's i875P chipset is most powerful solution for P4 system today. It features unique features like Performance Acceleration Technology (PAT) and extraordinary system performance. Unlike its little brother i865PE, it also supports ECC memories. Most i865PE motherboards are however able to take advantage of i875P PAT feature since it is possible to enable it on i865PE chipset too. Intel of course doesn't like this and that's why "PAT" is called on i865PE boards in various names like Super PATCH (DFI), Memory Acceleration Mode (Asus) or Game Accelerator (Abit). But there is clear advantage of i875P over "PAT" enabled i865PE since PAT mode is enabled on i875P even with 3:2 and 5:4 memory dividers. This makes huge difference if you are overclocking your system and use 5:4 or 3:2 memory dividers.

Infinity 875 is quite rich featured motherboard. DFI uses Intel 82547EI ET LAN chip (full-duplex gigabit, CSA), which is most likely best network controller that one can get in any price. There is also ICH5R south bridge, which provides two SATA ports with RAID 0 and RAID 1 support. DFI hasn't forget IDE RAID users either and HighPoint 372N RAID controller provides two additional IDE-ports with RAID 0, 1 and 1.5 support.

Overclocking features are extensive and some features like CMOS Reloaded are unforeseen. I also like EZ touch since it's very handy if you are using system without case. There is however few things that would have liked to see like better audio solution and few additional SATA ports. As a whole Infinity 875 is very nice balanced board with lot's of features that are useful to most of users. I think that DFI has made very wise choices leaving firewire and few other features out since most users won't need them anyway. I would have liked to see better audio solution but that would have perhaps cost too much and most gamers and music listeners probably use they dedicated hardware any way.

Bundle:

Bundle

  • 2 Ultra ATA IDE cables
  • Serial ATA cable
  • Floppy drive flat cable
  • I/O shield
  • Manuals and driver CDs

Bundle shipped with motherboard is just sufficient. There is no rounded cables or any special goods like SATA power adapters, USB brackets etc. DFI's LanParty series is packed with lot's of extra goodies so if you want to pay extra to get them, I recommend LANPARTY PRO875 motherboard which comes with big nice bundle. I however like my motherboards as raw as I can get them so I appreciate that I don't have to pay extra for bundle that I don't need. Well, ok I would have liked to see two SATA cables and power adapters.
