The processor still attahced to the Slotket which connects the PPGA processor with the Slot1 processor onto
the motherboard. |
 |
A close-up of the processors. You can still see the marks. |
 |
A closer look of the processor shows you how uneven and bumpy its surface is. The surface of the box is
also quite concave in the middle. For this particular reason this polishing will be made. |
 |
The equipment needed include glass paper of different strenghts (320, 660, 1000 and 1500), some
tape, anti-static bag which protects the processor and a plate of glass on which the polishing will be
done. This is important so that the surface of the processor will be as even as possible. |
 |
The sand-papers of strenghts 320 and 660 are attached on the glass and preliminarily protected processor. |
 |
The protection is made of three layers: the undermost layer is made of the antistatic bag which has a hole
of the size of the core. The middle layer is of Schotch's transparent magic tape which protects the
processor from dust. The topmost layer is masking tape which protects the processor from the water. |

 |
As we can see, the edges of the core of the processor start to wear off first. This is because of a
slight bump in the middle of the casing. The coppery color starts to reveal itself from underneath the
silvery surface. |
 |
The whole surface polished evenly, using the 320 paper. |
 |
The processor polished smooth from the scratches the rougher paper has caused. |
 |
Also the cooling profile needs its polish. There is also a deep bump and deep scratches in the center of
it. |
 |
We can notice the same phenomenon as with the processor. Material from the sides of the profile starts to
disappear. This, however, shows that the concavity has caused a large empty area between the two, which
isn't filled efficiently even when using silicon- or copper pastes. |
 |
The polished processor back in its adapter. The bumps before the polishing have disappeared. |
 |
The polished surface in a clean coppery color. |
After applying silicon paste and attaching of the cooling profile it's time for testing. The computer is
perfectly stable using a bus-speed of 103MHz, using 2.3v voltage. So, the speed of the CPU is 567 Mhz So far so
good :)
Be warned! I take no responsibility if you succeed to flaw/break/destroy your or one of your friend's
processors, or any other part while following these instructions.
