Call Of Duty 2

Even The Call of Duty 2 can't be called a new game anymore, it still manages to put the 8600GTS to its knees. The FPS was taken while watching a replay, so the test was perfectly identical every time. The best possible graphical settings proved to be playable on the 8600GTS so these were used. Even the slowest card this time, 7600GT, came pretty close to being playable and by lowering the AA slightly made the game playable with it. Foxconn 8600GTS played smoothly and at 8800GTS the FPS never dropped under 40.

Company of Heroes

CoH is maybe the most awarded game of the last year and definitely the most awarded RTS-game. Even in this genre the graphics may not be as important as in FPS games, the game definitely looks awesome and gives a real challenge to even the fastest cards at full settings. In Company of Heroes there's an auto-setting option in the graphical options, which was used at 8600GTS, then the same performance test was ran at the same settings with the other cards. This is again a syntetic way of recording the FPS and also the best playable settings for the 8600GTS. The average FPS remained nice and steady around 45, but there was some nasty drops during the test. Using the 8800GTS was perfectly smooth again, so the results were exactly the same as in CoD2. 7600GT lags behind having some real difficulties to remain even remotely playable.

Half-Life 2 - Episode 1

Episode 1 is the first standalone seriel to the Half Life 2. This isn't the heaviest of tests anymore, but still at full settings looks pretty outstanding so it made its way to our tests as well. In Episode 1 even the 7600GT was enough at the lower 1280x1024 resolution, but using the wide resolution proved too much. 8600GTS had no problems even at the higher resolution and 8800GTS was again far away from these two.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl

Stalker's launch was delayed numerous times, but finally it saw the daylight in march 2007. At full settings the game proved to be extremely heavy on the GPU core, so custom settings were made for the tests.

Test results for this particular game are rather odd as it managed to slow down even the 8800GTS to almost the same degree as the 8600GTS. The average on the other hand is clearly higher for both resolutions on the 8800GTS. 7600GT was not playable at all.
