Design

The X8 follows the design scheme started by the original Sidewinder. There's the distinctive hump for the thumb keys, the small LCD-screen, and the metal scroll wheel. In front of the thumb buttons there's the macro key.

On the top of the mouse there's first of all the metallic wheel that can also be tilted. Behind that there's the three sensitivity buttons (default 500-1000-4000 DPI) and a recessed button that, in Vista, acts as a Games-shortcut, and in XP launches the mouse settings.

On the bottom there's a black hatch that covers the battery and the bluetrack-sensor. The blue track sensor is one of the new things in the X8, and among the impressive numbers it provides, it's also supposed to work on just about any surface. On the front one can see the connector for the magnetic charger cable.
Size Comparison

Size comparison with a basic wireless mouse and MX518 from Logitech. The X8 is the widest from the bunch, while the MX is a bit longer. The side profile is pretty similar with a steep bump at the rear end. The wide and reasonably short design might be closer to the G9, which unfortunately didn't make it to the size comparisons. Once again, the size doesn't tell the whole tale, you'd always better try a mouse yourself before buying it.
