For sound quality comparison we put the HS1A against the recently reviewed Razer
Banshees. The Banshees are USB-powered and also cost more, but essentially they also use
similar stereo headphones with 50 mm drivers, so when just comparing the sound quality
they are definitely in the same league. The headsets are roughly the same size and both
are also very comfortable to wear.
In use
Corsair say that when designing the HS1A their main concern was natural sound quality
that doesn't over-emphasize the bass end like so many other gaming headsets. They also
make a good point of saying that you can always boost the response from EQ if you like
to, but you can't really make the response flat again if it's designed otherwise. It's
easy to say all sorts of things about new products, but long story short, the HS1 is the
best sounding headset I've used. The frequency response sounds flat and everything
sounds clear and natural.
Not only do they sound great, but you can also enjoy the tunes hours on end, as the
HS1 is also a very comfortable headset to wear. In the last review I did say the Razer
Banshee, for me atleast, set the new standard in comfortable headphones, but as it turns
out Corsair can make just as comfy headphones. In use the only small nags that I have
are the volume controller that I'd like to be able to clip to my clothes and the
microphone which I'd prefer to be removable. But really the controller is so light it's
hard to notice most of the time and a microphone makes sense on a headset, so overall
everything is well.

These few gaming headset reviews have been a bit of an eye opener for me personally.
I listen a LOT of music, watch tons of films and also am an avid gamer and also take the
sound quality pretty seriously. Before the reviews I've always been a bit iffy about the
whole idea of "gamer audio"-products, but really I've had to discard my prejudice and
admit some of the kit sounds genuinely nice. The Razer Banshees were already pretty
impressive, but the HS1A sound overall more neutral, and more the way I like my
headphones to sound.
So it seems Corsair has done it again, entered a new market with a great product. Not
only is the sound quality excellent, but the HS1A also feels very sturdy, folds to a
smaller space and is comfortable to use. There really isn't much more one can ask from a
headset. These will definitely remain in my personal use after the review, and there's
just no better reason for awarding a product with our Editor's Choice-award!
